Add fields and pick a data type for each. Use the gear to set rules like ranges, formats, and blank values.

Spaces are fine. For SQL, snake_case names like customer_email work best.

Point Hootie at a form, page, or schema and it will find the fields for you.

Works with public pages. Pages behind a login aren't supported yet.

Write the exact structure you want. Use tags for values, repeats, and nested objects.

    {{person.fullName}}
Any data type. Use Insert value to pick one, or write a short name like {{email}}.
    {{number min=10 max=500}}
Add settings as key=value: min, max, decimals, prefix, pattern, values="a,b,c", format, from, to.
    {{#repeat 10}} ... {{/repeat}}
Repeats the block. In JSON templates it also adds the commas between copies. Use {{#repeat min=1 max=5}} for a random count, or {{#repeat rows}} to use the Rows setting.
    {{@index}}
The position inside the current repeat, starting at 0.

Values inside one repeated block share the same person, address, and company, so names and emails match. If the output is a JSON array, you can also download it as CSV, SQL, or Excel.

    Locale

Use the same seed to get the exact same data again. Leave blank for new data every time.
    Mixed split
Shown only when intent is Mixed.
Shown only when format is SQL.
Shown only when format is SQL. Default: test_data

Shown only when format is JSON.
Shown only when format is CSV.

Generate Test Data in Three Steps

    1

    Tell Hootie what you need

Describe it in plain English, build it field by field, or upload a screenshot, URL, or JSON sample.

    2

    Set the rules

Pick rows, format, and locale, and choose valid, invalid, or boundary data.

    3

    Preview and export

Edit anything in the table, then download as JSON, CSV, SQL, or Excel.

A Test Data Generator Built for Testers

Data that tries to break things

Generate invalid and boundary values on purpose, each labeled with why it should fail. Negative testing starts with negative data.

    Four ways to start

Describe it, build it, generate it from a source, or write a template. Every option lands in an editable schema.

    Fields from any form

Upload a screenshot or paste a URL and Hootie finds every input field for you.

    Real formats for real regions

Names, phones, and addresses that match 20 locales, including the Gulf and South Asia.

    Repeatable every time

Set a seed and get the exact same dataset again, so tests stay stable across runs.

    Ready for your stack

Export JSON, CSV, SQL, or Excel, with SQL dialects for MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and SQLite.

A Mock Data Generator for Developers

Need mock data for a prototype, a demo, or an API response? Paste a JSON example or an OpenAPI spec and get realistic data in the exact shape your code expects. Seed your local database with SQL inserts, drop fixtures into Playwright or Cypress, or fill a front end before the backend is ready.

Test Data Generation, Explained by QA Engineers

What is a test data generator?

A test data generator creates realistic fake data that teams use to test software without touching real customer records. It fills forms, seeds databases, and feeds APIs with names, emails, dates, amounts, and IDs that look and behave like the real thing. Because nothing is real, you can share, reset, and regenerate it freely.

Why not test with production data?

Copying production data into test environments puts real customers at risk and can break privacy rules such as GDPR and HIPAA. It also rarely covers the cases that matter most, like malformed inputs and values at the edge of a limit. Generated data is safe by design and can be shaped to cover exactly the scenarios you need.

    Valid, invalid, and boundary data

Most tools only generate data that is supposed to work. Real bugs hide in the data that isn't. This tool lets you generate test data that should fail validation, plus values sitting right at a limit, and labels each row so testers know what to expect. That turns a data file into a ready-made set of negative and edge-case inputs.

    Test data vs. mock data

The two terms overlap. Test data usually means data used to run tests against an app. Mock data usually means stand-in data developers use while building, such as a fake API response or a prototype's content. A good mock data generator and a good test data generator do the same job: produce realistic values in the right shape, fast.

    When to generate test data

    • Before a feature ships: fill forms and screens with realistic values for manual and automated testing.
    • Database seeding: load a test or staging database with thousands of consistent rows.
    • API testing: send realistic payloads, including invalid ones, to check validation and error handling.
    • Performance testing: create large datasets to see how the app behaves at volume.
    • Demos and prototypes: show a product with believable data instead of "Test User 1."

Built by a test management team

This tool comes from Kualitee, a test management platform used by QA teams in banking, telecom, the public sector, and education. Frequently Asked Questions

Is this test data generator free?

Yes, completely. There's no sign-up and nothing is locked. Generate up to 100,000 rows at a time and download them right away.

    What formats can I export?

JSON, CSV, SQL, and Excel. SQL supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and SQLite.

Can I generate invalid test data?

Yes. Set Data intent to Invalid, Boundary, or Mixed. Each row is labeled valid, invalid, or boundary, with a short reason.

Can I use this as a mock data generator for APIs?

Yes. Paste a JSON example and get data in the same shape, ready to use as mock responses or fixtures.

    Is the generated data real?

No. Every value is generated. Names, emails, and IDs are realistic in format but don't belong to real people. Card numbers use published test ranges only.

    Do you store my data?

No. Generated data is deleted from our servers within an hour, and you don't need an account to use the tool.

Can I get the same data again?

Yes. Set a seed in Advanced settings. The same seed and schema always produce the same rows.

    Which locales are supported?

20 locales, including English, Arabic (UAE and Saudi Arabia), Urdu, Hindi, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Chinese, and Japanese.

How is this different from the AI Test Case Generator?

The AI Test Case Generator writes the test cases. This tool creates the data those cases use. They work together: generate data for your test cases, or test cases for your data, in one click.
